FUTURE OF LANCASTER PARK TO BE CONSIDERED

The Christchurch City Council have released a first look at how Lancaster Park could look once the earthquake-damaged stadium, which is being demolished, has gone.

Christchurch City Council staff, in conjunction with community and sporting groups, including the Christchurch Metro Cricket Association, have prepared a spatial plan for redeveloping the park in response to community need for more recreational areas and sports grounds.

The spatial plan includes sports fields for winter sporting codes such as rugby and football, and cricket grounds for summer use.

It also features informal, public open space and landscaped areas that reflect on the rich history of the park, which hosted sporting and cultural events for more than a century.

The spatial plan will be considered by the Waikura/Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Board at its meeting on Monday 5 August, where Christchurch Metro Cricket and the Lancaster Park Cricket Club will be addressing the Community Board.
