The Christchurch Metro Cricket Awards night were held last week at the Christchurch Golf Club, which was the opportunity for us to highlight outstanding individual and team performances and recognise the achievements of our hard working volunteers.
The highlight of the night was the announcement of Robine Rijke (North West) and Bevon-John Jacobs (Sydenham) as the cricketers of the year. Jacobs also won the Nook Ebert Trophy for the MVP as voted by the umpires, the Roger Blunt trophy for most runs and was named in the team of the year.
Rijke also won the Stead Rose Bowl for most runs and was named in the team of the year.
Other dual individual winners included Darcy-Rose Prasad of Sydenham (Wicket keeper of the Year and Team of the Year), Matthew Hay of Burnside West (Most wickets and Team of the Year), Danyaal Khalid of Lancaster Park (best young batter and Team of the Year), Jenna Waghorn of Sydenham (most wickets and Team of the Year) and Bethan Ellis (MVP voted by the Umpires and Team of the Year).
Grade winners were also presented their trophies.
